WELCOME TO WINDSURFERS – LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW SEASON!

Whatever your ability, the Lake is ideal for windsurfing in most wind directions, with spacious grassy area for rigging and easy launching area

You don’t have to worry about tides and you can enjoy the luxury of hot showers, hot drinks and the chance to have a chat with other windsurfers

Generally the lake is open for windsurfing on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from April onwards

There are a few safety rules which MUST be observed for your own and other water users’ safety:

  • You can only sail when there is safety boat cover – at the moment this is at the times above, but if we can get enough people interested and trained to operate the safety boat then we can sail anytime as long as safety boat cover is provided
  • You must wear a buoyancy aid (a harness does not count!) – this is a requirement of the lakes’ owners
  • You must have Third Party insurance
At the moment there is a problem with killer shrimp in the water – they are harmless to people but they are predators of other marine life. At the moment they are found only in the lake at Margam, in Cardiff Bay, and in a reservoir in Cambridgeshire, so it is really important that they do not spread to other waters – consequently you must wash down all kit (boards, sails, wetsuits etc) before leaving the lake

So having got the boring bits over, we can look forward to a great season now that the weather is finally warming up and hopefully we will get some windy weather.

Calling All Windsurfers

Nigel Pugh.jpg
My name is Nigel Pugh and I am the new Windsurfing representative on the Sailing Club Committee. (Sadly, that's not me in the picture on the left!)

As this is the first season of Windsurfing on the Lake, I am keen to hear your ideas and suggestions about windsurfing at the club.

Please let me know your views by saying hello at the Lake, or contact me on 07793 195538 or windsurfing@tatasteelsailing.org.uk

I Look forward to hearing from you!

Open Day

There is an Open Day at the Lake on Saturday 7th May when we are hoping to get one of the local shops to bring some demo kit for you to have a go on.

Safety Boat Training

There will be some safety boat training courses for club members running on Thursday evenings - it would be great to get loads of windsurfers trained up so that we can then provide safety cover for more sessions. If you are interested, please email me with your details as soon as you can.
