Corus Sailing Club held its annual dinner and presentation on the evening of 24th November. Club members enjoyed an excellent 3 course buffet dinner and afterwards the seasons winning sailors were presented with trophies. Retiring Commodore, Paul Bambridge, said that the club had one of its most successful years for some time with membership keeping up, a very successful annual regatta and the junior members making good progress.

 

Special mention was given to Daniel Hearse, age 15 from Bridgend, who won the Emma Nettleship Trophy for Best Youth and Junior. Pauline Gallagher, age 17 from Porthcawl who was awarded the Most Improved Helm and Zoe Davies from Porthcawl, who was awarded the Most Improved Crew.

 

The club has ambitions plans for the coming year having purchased additional junior dinghies of the Optimist class which will be used to improve the training programme and the club will also be seeking permission to build an extension.

The club runs a number of racing series during the year in each of the three main classes of dinghy Solo, Laser and General Handicap.

 

Solo winners were:

Bob Taylor and Ian Fox.

 

Laser winners were:

John Locket, Dave Gibson and Nick Dallimore.

 

General Handicap winners were:

David Downes & Elaine John.

Mike Hobson.

Ken Wilfort.

Gordon Evans and Bob Taylor.

 

A presentation was also made to retiring Commodore, Paul Bambridge, in thanks for his four years service leading the club.
