Welcome to the website for Corus Sailing Club, Margam, Port Talbot. 

The club is situated three miles south of Port Talbot, South Wales and was formerly known as the British Steel Sailing Club. The reservoir is over one mile long by approximately half a mile wide, where racing takes place every Sunday throughout the whole year (for those brave enough!) and also on Saturdays, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday evenings through the Summer months.

4th-5th October, 2008 Corus Sailing Club Open Regatta - all welcome. The formal Notice Of Race is now available.

This event is one of the parts of the WYA (South Wales) Grand Prix circuit and will also be raising funds for the RNLI.
There are some changes from previous years, in particular:                                                                                                                            Saturday 4th October: start 12:00 - 3 races followed by a barbecue                                                                                                               Sunday   5th October: start 10:30 - 3 races, the first to be the 'RNLI' race which will be a single handicap race for all boats with abstracted results for fleets. 5 results will count to the series result.

- Club members will pay £5 per boat.
- Non-members will pay £15 per double-hander, £10 per single hander, reduced by £5 for each sailor under 18
- A donation of £5 per boat will be made to the RNLI from the entry fees.

6th August, 2008 Great news, progress on the clubhouse improvements. Corus have approved the new Boathouse and Toilet block extension. We will shortly be applying to the council for planning permission. Sketch plan of extension.

20th July, 2008 Results for 2008 have been re-calculated on Sailwave to correctly show qualification for the series based on the number of races entered. The Rank column will show DNQ until sufficient races have been sailed. The points in the Nett column will indicate current ranking. Results for all 2008 series have been re-posted to the web site.

16th July, 2008 Club BBQ and OPEN EVENING plus normal Wednesday race. Calling all club members - come along and have some fun down the club. Why not bring a friend or colleague who has never sailed or is interested in sailing, show them around and give them a go in your dinghy?

6th July, 2008 Committee Meeting Notices. Due to greater numbers than expected sailing on Tuesday the Committee have decided that an additional manned safety boat is necessary. For the rest of this year it will be manned by volunteers and there will be a list on the notice board - so if you can please volunteer.

There have been many people not turning up for duties recently - can all members please consult the yearbook and check their duties and TURN UP AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE RACING. When someone does not turn up a replacement must be found which normally means someone giving up their sailing for the day.

For racing to take place there must be THREE people on DUTY and AT LEAST TWO changed and manning the rescue boat. Racing can not take place unless there are at least three people on duty.

8th June, 2008 The club hosted a visit by Corus Strip Products UK Managing Director Mr. Uday Kumar Chaturvedi. Mr. Chaturvedi spent two hours at the club being shown the current facilities, proposed plans for the clubs future and he took the opportunity to go out in a dinghy himself. Photo Gallery.

24th May, 2008 The Club is host to the WYA Club Youth Racing Circuit for SE Wales on Saturday 24 May. Young sailors from a number of clubs in the region will be competing. Will any club member who is interested in helping with running this event, please make this known to Mike Hewlins or Bob Taylor. Help is needed both on and off the water so there is something available for all levels of experience.

16th May, 2008 MEMBERSHIP FEES - YOUR LAST CHANCE. An examination of dinghies will be carried out over the next few weekends, and any not legitimately tagged by paid up members will be placed on the club's list for disposal.  The club will attempt to contact owners, but failing this the RYA procedure will be followed to dispose of them. Untagged trailers are already being scrapped. To keep a boat, trolley, and trailer at the club you must be a fully paid up member. 

To be safe please REGISTER your BOAT at the club and get a GREEN TAG.

20th April, 2008 Working Party at 09.00 am. (Before Sailing). This should be the last clearance of the brambles, clear grass from the concrete , re-edge pathways. Please bring tools (Spade, Fork, Shears, Bill Hook, Yard brush , Wheelbarrow or anything that will cut brambles or clear grass). This is the last opportunity to make the club look smart before the Solo Open. If anyone has any surplus small paving stones (12in * 12in) and would like to donate them they would be most welcome.

Please Note that ALL BOATS and TRAILERS should be registered at the club separately from membership renewal , if you have not please do so ASAP. There are a number of unregistered TRAILERS which will be disposed off soon if unclaimed.

10th April, 2008 Training sessions start for RYA Level 1 & 2.

5th April, 2008 Please make sure you secure your boat adequately, otherwise it may not be where you left it! Instructions are provided in the Club Booklet, Photos.

23rd March, 2008 Club Year books available, come down to the club to pick up your copy and register your boat and trailer. There are a number of unidentified trailers in the compound. The RYA disposal policy is in the process of being implemented so that we can remove unidentified items. 

15th March, 2008 Working party to convert 6 Toppers to centre main system, plus dinghy compound tidying, 10:00 am.

15th March, 2008 The RYA ARBITRATION PROCEDURE for all club racing is introduced from today, for more information on the procedure look at the RYA web site.

9th March, 2008 Working Party 9:00 am before sailing. Clearance and tidy up of the dinghy park, please bring your own tools.

2nd March 2008 Calling al Members - Special General Meeting 13:30 in-between races. To approve changes to club rules which will allow the club to apply for Community Amateur Sports Club status. This will save lots of money please make sure you attend its your money after all.

24th Feb 2008 Road trailers and trolleys should be kept with your dinghy. The dinghy park contains a large number of apparently unused and unidentified trailers and trolleys. Please retrieve your trailers and trolleys. All unidentified trailers and trolleys will be removed during the working party on the 9th March.

Interested learning how to race dinghies? Then why not come along to our "Introduction to Racing Course"? The course starts on Saturday 30th September at 10.00am and will be run on a very informal basis lasting about 2 hours.   The course is aimed at new members to encourage them to join in the Club racing, hence it will be basic information with the aim of building confidence. Come along and see what it's all about!

Saturday, 23rd September, 10:30am to 4pm. The Morriston Hospital Dragon Burns Club will be at the club this coming Saturday so if there are any volunteers to assist the sea cadets by taking a few kids out in the club boats then please come along and let Simon know.

The 29 & 30 April Corus Sailing Club (Margam) held the twelfth annual event for the Solo Welsh Championship. The event attracted 27 sailors from as far a field as Leeds, Kent, Essex and Devon to take on the 10 local club sailors. Results and report can be found via the Diary page

Don't forget there is racing on Boxing Day and New Years Day (two dates, two events!). First race starts at 12pm and the second starts at 2pm, both races needed to count.

Also, the Blue Robin series starts on January 8th until March 12th. Two races will be held on each Sunday with the first start at 12pm. This is a General Handicap series with 20 races and 9 to count. IT'S ALSO OPEN TO NON-MEMBERS !!!!!! Don't forget the extra thermals..........

Please note that the padlock for the dinghy compound has now changed. If you would like a new key, please see Gordon or Ruth Evans, 01443 227456. This key will also unlock the new barrier that has been constructed across the entrance road to the club. If you have an old key, you will be able to swap the old key for a new key. Alternatively, keys can be obtained for a deposit of £20.
