Training at Corus

The club offers a programme of RYA recognized dinghy sailing training each year for those new to sailing and to increase the confidence of those who feel a little rusty. Introductory and Racing training is provided.

The club has a fleet of dinghies to suite most sizes from Optimists for younger children from eight years up, new Topaz UNOs for 2010, Toppers and more challenging dinghies such as Lasers as trainees become more proficient. There is also a  RS Visio and a Topper Omega for those who wish to learn and develop their skills in a multi person or family dinghy. When no training is taking place and after trainees have completed their course, some older Club dinghies will be available to the years trainees on a first come first served basis so that they can continue to sail while deciding on their own craft. The club also offers Powerboat and Safety Boat training which is primarily aimed at preparing club members for their roster duties.

Trainees will be expected to join the club (Membership fees are detailed on the Membership page.) and pay a training fee. Courses will be run where sufficient demand occurs and the club can meet the resources required.

RYA Level 1&2 - Introduction to dinghy sailing

Training will take place Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings:

·         Sunday Training

·         Tuesday Training

The training programme will take the format of a rolling schedule which will allow for new trainees to enter the programme as current trainees complete their course. Therefore there will be no official start/completion date for a block course once the training season has begun. This will provide a degree of flexibility for both trainees and trainers, allowing people to fit in a course around their individual commitments. This has been identified, by the team, as a key requirement for a successful training programme:
